Temple of Tooth Relic
This temple was built between the years if 1687 to 1707 by the Kandyan Kings present at the time. It houses a tooth that belonged to ‘Lord Buddha.
Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha, The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth house.
During puja time (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open the doors to devotees and tourists.
However, you don’t actually see the tooth of the Buddha. It’s kept in a golden dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size. As well as the revered main temple, the complex includes a series of smaller temples around, shrines and museums as well.
